Hey quirkiers,

May I officially wish you a happy new year, I am so excited to share yet another year with you ❤. I’ve spent most of January writing down my goals for this year and making some necessary changes, I bet you have noticed my new theme and that I finally got a domain (screams). Okay back to business 😂, it’s no secret that without the right implementation a goal/resolution will remain just a statement on a piece of paper. This got me thinking about what kind of steps, or habits to be specific, I need to adopt in order to tick off my goal list by the end of this year. And, in no particular order, I narrowed it down to this list;

“The Mizzle dress” by Maricko Nations

I’ve said this before and I’ll say this again, you don’t have to read a whole book for it to count as reading! It could be a 2 page article or simply an insightful thread of tweets. Some of the most successful people such as Bill Gates and Mark Zuckerberg are avid readers. When people ask Tech millionaire Elon Musk how he learned to build rockets he has a simple answer, “I read books.” If books made this guy a millionaire, I am officially moving into a library this year!

I am wearing the “Mizzle wrap dress” from Maricko Nations. I had to pick one item to style from their new collection and I chose this beauty. Did I mention that they ship worldwide?

Patience is a virtue that many, including myself, struggle with. We would rather have that job sooner than later, but now isn’t always the best time. Have you ever been in a situation where you’ve waited so long for something that you actually forgot about it, but when you finally got it you were so glad it hadn’t come earlier? In times when your patience is tried, go back to that very moment and remember how important patience is.

A significant part of our earlier years are spent learning punctuation marks and among those is the infamous question mark “? ”, I think it’s the weirdest looking of all punctuation marks, lol. Many believe that asking questions is a sign of weakness or lack of knowledge but that’s far from the truth. A question has far more power than you may think, for starters it puts you in control of a conversation and by the end of that conversation you will either have a change of mindset, new information or a new meal if you asked for a recipe! Now, if one question can give you all that, imagine what 365 questions for 365 days will do for you. I challenge you to ask 365 meaningful question this year, I am totally joining in on this too.

One of my favourite quotes is by Samuel Johnson he said “Self-Confidence is the first requisite in great undertakings.” Now let that sink in, Be confident in yourself and your ideas.

I chose not to wear shoes, because a dress like this is all you need.  😂

“Comparison is a killer of Joy,” make it your goal to work hard at what you are best at and be your own competition without stopping to look at what the next person is doing. This is easier in theory but once it is mastered, will prove to be a valuable skill. There will always be people within and outside your field doing better than you in different aspects of life. Therefore comparison is a recipe for a stress, unhappiness and sometimes a setup for failure.

Raise your hand if you are a victim of procrastination. I’m actually raising both my hands right now because I’ve procrastinated so much it’s actually really sad. Notice how when you push your work forward, you will keep doing it until you are 5 minutes away from your deadline and you are typing like a maniac. I guarantee you will have tons and tons of spelling errors because, work done in a rush is never your best work. There is only one cure for procrastination, “Do not wait for tomorrow, Do it now!”. With this formula you are definitely going to create some of your best work to date.

I was reading something the other day, by Psychotherapist Amy Morin. She says, “Every time you say yes to something you are really saying no to something else.” Weigh every single thing you are asked to attend or do and make sure that saying yes to it doesn’t make you say no to something more important. Saying “No” doesn’t only apply to third parties but sometimes it means saying no to that doughnut when you are on a diet or no to staying in bed all day when you have a heap of work waiting for you.

2018-01-26 05788337195..jpg8. PLANNING

Planning is essential. I have the worst habit of wanting to wing it or cross that bridge when I get there and trust me, I’ve learnt the hard way that planning goes a long way (baaaars!). Doing your research and setting out even a skeleton of how you will carry something out keeps you on track, ensures you don’t forget anything and will definitely keep you confident even as you do it because you won’t be thinking on your toes.

Having been raised in a Christian home and getting to know God personally is huge part of my life. Knowing there’s someone who is bigger than me who has this whole universe in his hands and is in control even when I am a hot mess. This gives me a sense of peace knowing that God is in control and I’ve made it a habit to talk to him regularly, before a big event or a huge decision because no matter the outcome it is always for my good.

Rejection is something that is no stranger to any of us, but the real hardship is getting up after being rejected and moving on. One of the things these past few years have taught me is that when you get ten rejection letters apply thirty more times, when sixty doors get shut in your face knock on a thousand more. Don’t stop knocking on doors, don’t stop creating, don’t stop dreaming, and don’t stop believing in yourself!
